December 12, 2022 - Last bottle of 6 - been a good journey
Clear deep ruby
Pre-decant:
Chinese dried goods store: salt fish, dried mushroom - could be unpleasant for some
Deep black fruit, vegetation (eucalyptus?), hint of baking spice, vanilla
After 1h:
Musk has blown away
Black fruits
Spice, herbaceous notes
More olives than cured meat, saline
Beautifully balanced on the palate
High acid
Medium+ integrated, velvety tannins
High alcohol
Medium+ body
Still lively and fruit-forward on the palate, rich plums, little secondary character
Last bottle was a dud, this one is a winner. Drink up folks, this ain't gonna last much longer. -

July 12, 2022 - Just a touch less rich and complex than the 6/14/21 bottle.

June 12, 2022 - Super jammy and mouth coating. Still plenty of life. Really opened up after decanting.

March 25, 2022 - Decanted. Substantial sediment.
Some bottle mustiness initially. Breathed off to show wonderful Viognier lifted aromas that continued to build over an hour or two. The Shiraz aromas are looking old but the Viognier brings a vitality and aromatic complexity.
Looked old initially but the flavours built up beautifully. A wonderful aged example of this blend.
May stay on this plateau for some time. I bought this one bottle as a reference and I would drink any others in the next year or so.
30 minutes later. Close to the bottom of the decanter and it continues to build in aromatic complexity. Again, I feel it is at its peak but what a wonderful peak.1 person found this helpful Comment -

October 8, 2021 - Wow what a gorgeous wine. 92% Syrah pressed into 8% Viogner skins. Would never guess 2004/17 years old given the strength, freshness and pureness of this wine. Elegant and not round, or extracted. Drinking in its prime with little decant, the wine is dark purple with no bricking whatsoever. Nose is crushed blueberry, sweet vanilla oak, a touch of smoked steak, balsamic, black cherry cola. Palate is silky dark berry fruit but with structure from charred oak flavor, pepper, and very slight alcohol (alcohol is relatively undetectable with food).
1 bottle remaining, and will likely decant an hour or so just to get things going.2 people found this helpful Comment
