February 19, 2017 - Not my favorite. Very hard opening, wine smoothed out after a while. It was just not what I'm used to.

November 11, 2016 - I needed something big and bold to pair with the spicy beef bulgogi tonight and this was the choice. Based on other reviews, I splash decanted, and then venturied the first couple of glasses. As others have duly noted, there is definitely a unique and interesting aroma in the profile, which as PICKHARDT noted seems to be a clove, earth, spice like fragrance. It dissipates somewhat after about 90 minutes in the decanter. This is definitely big, bold and tannic with notes of clove, dark berries, chocolate, herbs and lots of earthiness, along with some oak and tannins in the mix. Big and chewy in the mouth. All elements lead to a strong, persistent finish.

March 5, 2016 - Several reviewers talk about an offputting component to this wine. To me it's got a little barnyard going on. Dark and brooding. Earthy. Oaky. Still very tannic. Enough acid to balance things out. No berry notes to speak of. Decent finish. Maybe a little plum, pepper, clove, and leather. A quality wine, though maybe not immediately popular.

January 2, 2016 - Very disappointed at the amount of time it took to open--and never to my satisfaction. After many years and many bottles, maybe I/we are do for a let down.
