Community Tasting Notes 3

June 20, 2020 - Third bottle from a half case purchased en primeur from a reputable Dutch merchant. Ten years ago Jancis Robinson called this "scented and easy" - that was not my experience five years ago and it is not quite my experience today. This is essentially a firm and tannic wine, typical for the 2005 vintage. But the structure has softened considerably since 2015, which is much to its benefit, and aromas of spices and crushed red berries are emerging on the nose. There is still a dusty and cedary quality on the savoury palate however, and the finish feels tight and slightly pinched. There is no lack of energy and freshness here, so I will revisit this in 2025 - Deo volente.

February 13, 2017 - Best just a bit colder than room temp

January 11, 2015 - Purchased en primeur. Youthful appearance, hardly any browning at the edges; the nose needs time to open up but even after a few hours in the decanter it remains relatively closed, spicy and earthy and with a hint of bacon but without lift or fragrance; the palate is neither very linear nor very precise, there is some sève and weight but the tannins continue to dominate in a slightly raw manner; good length. An uncommunicative wine that is devoid of charm at present. Dusty, difficult and with little terroir expression. Does it need more time or is this past best already? Second bottle consistent with the first. Cautious score.
