January 15, 2021 - A hazy red hue. Almost opaque. Some signs of age on the edges. Nose was initially quite red and vibrant with some candied strawberry element. As it opened it softens and turned darker. Ripe dark cherry, blueberry and plum notes. Some secondary sents as well — wet earth and forest floor. A bite of wood. Palate is fine with rather refined red and blue fruit and tight but piercing acidity. Medium bodied. the acidity is a bit unbalanced, especially in the finish, otherwise I would have rated higher. Interesting and worth a look forward the price. Probably better in its youth.

October 6, 2015 - Nose shows strong notes of candied raspberry and blueberry, with hints of liquorice, graphite, and paprika. Medium-bodied palate: heavy, but slightly spritzy. Flavours of blackberry, blueberry, and charcoal, with an astringent finish.

November 17, 2014 - Cherry and plum flavours. Nutty, good oak with velvety texture.

July 6, 2013 - Good NZ Pinot. Lots of berries. Reletively warm wine - as expected of a Gibston wine.

October 7, 2012 - The Sampler Winter Tasting 2012 (London): Pure cherry aromas with a lifted, leafy tinge. Decent fruit and not too sweet. The oak has integrated nicely and resulted in a nice textural mouthfeel. Still a bit of structure but this is drinking very well and it compares very favourably with the 2010 Ata Rangi I tasted recently, which was 40% more expensive. Not sure there's much complexity to come but very easy to like just now. 17/20.
