Community Tasting Notes 4

March 24, 2024 - Served in a Grassl Liberte stem from a bottle opened yesterday. 90% opaque purple color with a clear rim and very slow, lightly stained legs. Powerful nose of flowers, red berries, licorice, and mint. Very fresh and vibrant for a fortified wine with the mint note becoming even more prominent on the palate. Compared to my note from 2017, I would say that the tannins have integrated into a nice harmony and now the wait is just for the extra complexity and texture that comes with age. Right now, it still drinks as much like an Aussie Shiraz as it does a Port, which also makes it fine with a burger or steak ;)

February 2, 2018 - Opening Season by the Mediterranean; 2/2/2018-2/4/2018 (Alicante - España): On one hand, an infanticide, that's right.
On the other a modern feeling that does not leave you during the whole tasting.
Aromas of black fruits with memories of amarone and compotes.
On the palate some saline note and little else. Acidity comes from its youth and that short length from its modern concept. Definitively it's not for me.

November 21, 2017 - Dark, sexy, loaded with tannins, but plenty of fruit material that should make this pretty special in years to come. I’m struck by how seductive the wine is while maintaining fantastic purity and delineation. Very young, yes, but this is a winner imb. 4+13+18+9=94

November 1, 2013 - Red & White Portugal tasting (Utenga): Very dark, like ink. Very intense and compact nose. Dark chocolate. Cherry and chocolate on the palate. Extremely dry, loads of tannins. YOUNG!
