  September 29, 2022 - Magnum. Powerful, quite sweet, blackberry and cassis but quite backward. Soft tannin unfolding, really a lot going on. Opening up to grave dimensions towards the back, inviting more sweetness. The most intense and expressive of the lineup, without much heaviness. 96-97

  August 29, 2021 - Decanted 3.5 hours. Aromas of black cherry, blackberry, currant, hint of iron and bumble berry. Flavors of blackberry, currant, lime, cherry, chocolate and a flavor I can’t identify. Ends with a finish that lasts well over a minute. Really kicks it up a notch from the regular bottling. Has a distinct element to it.

  October 8, 2020 - Jailbreak Wine Dinner - Krug 168, Ultramarine, MacDonald and etc. (Jailbreak Brewery, Laurel, MD): This was a monster upon release and it hasn’t evolve a lot. Expressive nose displaying intense black fruit, crème de cassis, blackberry jam, licorice, ink, leather, cedar, dark spices, liquid smoke and earth. Incredibly concentrated, layers upon layers of intense black fruit, rich and unctuous, bright acidity, strong earthy mineral, very pronounced but fine tannins and a long intense black fruit driven finish with licorice and dark spices at the end. This seems to show more black fruit and a bit tighter compare to the 08 version.

  November 30, 2019 - Bought this bottle from WineBid, paid through the nose, but as is true not infrequently with auction wines (in my experience only), ‘buyer beware’ — because in an otherwise fine-looking bottle there was light seepage around the cork under the wax capsule, and the cork fell into the bottle under the slightest pressure of the corkscrew. So it’s probably a good thing I opened it when I did, and that it is sealed in wax, because I suspect a bottle in perfect condition is probably an even better wine than my rating suggests. This one seems to have the slightest whiff of funk about it. But even with all that in mind, this is a ripe, juicy wine that takes ‘decadence’ to the next level (whatever is the next level up from ‘decadent’).
