September 10, 2017 - Lots of fruit present, graphite, blackberry, balanced oak and acid, first bottle of a case, will wait longer as this has lots of life left.

September 2, 2017 - Fully mature with great balance and long finish. My last Shafer from the 90's and it did not disappoint. Great way to celebrate my parents 60th wedding anniversary.

December 25, 2015 - Always one of my favorite wines, but big name from great vintage was kind of disappointing (if you can call 95 points disappointing). I expected everything, and got it, just a little less. Not as much of the fruit flavor that I like, but well balanced, deep, with good nose and reasonable finish. Maybe just a hair more muted than I'd hoped. Drank over two nights.

November 11, 2015 - Decanted for an hour and followed over two more. This tasted very mature with a nose or red fruit, cedar and dried herbs with these same elements plus a hint of soy sauce repeated on the palate. The fruit continued to slowly expand throughout the night. This bottle was not as youthful as bottles noted in many of the recent notes here or Shafer’s last retrospective booklet. It was still a pleasure-just more mature than some other bottles.

(Shafer Hillside Select) This was pretty thin and closed. Nothing special.
