September 22, 2018 - This has lightened up slightly with a few extra years of age. Greater refinement now, the minerality more pronounced, leather and liquorice. big tannins. Savoury and very good with fatty food.

November 4, 2016 - Chateau Aydie, Vignobles Laplace 2008. Fantastic nose with aroma of chocolate, dark berries and vanilla. Balanced style. Nice acidity and some tannins. 92p.

March 24, 2014 - Tannins, tannins, and more tannins. Highly acidic. Decanted for 3 hours and was still right. Drank a half bottle straight and winced the entire time. Drank the second half with some pizza and enjoyed it immensely. Definitely needed the cheese and tomato sauce.

November 24, 2012 - Big bold wine, young and needing time, good nose dense fruit/ the palate is full with dark bramble, again dense, quite pure with good dry tannin/ fair length/ needs time, very good though. 14%

    November 5, 2012 - Perhaps a little early, nevertheless a good bottle.

On the nose plenty of oak, blackberry and black cherry. A big dark, dense wine, its quite heavy in the mouth initially, softening as the air got to it over a couple of hours. Tannins still quite harsh early on, but a good hearty example of Madiran. Wish i had another bottle, will definitely be buying more.

If I was to venture a little (completely amateur) advice , hold for 3-5 years to allow the tannins to soften a little. it may even improve a little for the time given.
