April 7, 2019 - Served double blind from my cellar. Sturdy, with good structure and plenty of fruit to support it. Spicy, intense, cinnamon even, tart berry fruit. Kind of an idealized mature wine to me. I was pretty confident this was some earthy, sour, Italian wine and I don't think anybody even mentioned Cabernet. Really lovely if enigmatic.

March 26, 2018 - Very short slow oz. Pristine cork. Amazing deep, rich color with almost no bricking. A decent amount of red fruit shows through with some plum and cedar. Blind, I would have never guessed it was over 20 years old.

December 1, 2017 - 1995 MOUNT EDEN VINEYARDS OLD VINE RESERVE CABERNET SAUVIGNON- tasted blind; man, I`m getting Sangiovese out of this; it had that medium body, red fruity profile that included sour red cherries and cranberry with earthy aromas and tea leaf notes as well as medium-plus tannins and high acidity; whatever it is , I`m liking it; yikes, it a Cab and from one of my favourite producers. I love blind tastings.

February 28, 2015 - On opening good fruit in nose but acidity dominated the palate. Still ruby at the rim, no browning. Gave it a quick decant and let it sit; it hit stride about 1.5 hours later. This is certainly older cab, with all the tea and leather flavors that come along with twenty years of waiting. If you are a fan of primary flavors you are not going to be fond of this, but to my taste it is singing tonight. Right now the acidity is starting to reassert itself. I'd advise drinking this up; the community holdings show 85% in cellars vs. 15% consumed.

June 22, 2013 - Decanted off moderate amount of fine sediment. Deep red color with little transparency. Initial pour has evidence of bottle sickness with a swampy-cheesy character. That blows off with about 20 minutes of air and the wine reveals a nose of vanilla, red fruit, and the beginning of some cedar and tobacco. The palate has plum, cherry, and currant with vanilla and cedar coming in on a medium-short finish. This is definitely in middle life and may have a nice old age ahead, but that future is partially obscured at this point because the tertiary character isn't all there to evaluate and the tannins are gone with acid keeping the package together. Drink or hold.
