September 22, 2023 - Early birthday celebration: Could easily have passed off as a very good right bank Bordeaux. Rich, dark red fruit with some plum notes. Had a little greenness from another era, liked the understated nature of this. Incredibly fresh for a 40 year old wine, just missing a little complexity as it came across as one-dimensional.

November 11, 2022 - Brought to a friend's birthday dinner in NY. Opened maybe 40 minutes before serving, didn't decant. The cork totally disintegrated, causing a bit of trepidation, but we needn't have worried. Even after the car ride and trip downtown in a backpack on the subway, this was gorgeous. Classic nose, tiny touch of eucalyptus, savory herbs, brambly black fruit, tobacco, slight dustiness, resolved tannins. Still great underlying balance and tension, structural support, firmly dry. Felt it was in a state that can last and hold forever, especially in this format. I love magnums. It was fun to present this in a strong lineup of mostly Burgundies and Rhones (for the reds) and have it show so well and full of a completely different personality.

February 5, 2022 - Matt’s 40th Party (Fallsington, PA): decanted off sediment and given an hour and a half. Color looks nowhere near its age. The aromas are insanely strong from pop and pour, just super full of fruit. Loads of red and black fruit, definitely reads old Bordeaux. This is absolutely incredible, tasting 20ish years old, loads of life ahead. Dunn Howell is crazy with age.

January 1, 2022 - Opened a 6L for New Year’s Eve. It seems to be at the end of its prime.
