January 23, 2022 - Drinking very well. Nice bouquet. Structured taste. Definitely not old-perhaps coming into its prime

May 30, 2016 - Interesting to re-visit this after three years. Deep, opaque ruby (unfiltered and unfined) with some garnet on the rim. The nose is clean, with ripe black fruit (blackberry, plum), ripe blueberries, herbs, alcohol and a hint of vanilla and baking spices. The nose is medium in intensity and developing. The palate is dry, but with a fair amount of fruit, balanced by medium (+) acidity. The alcohol is high at 15.8%. The tannins are still medium to medium (+), polished and drying. The flavors are consistent with the nose, with the addition of some savory spice and licorice. This is full-bodied, with medium (+) flavor intensity and medium (+) length on the slightly bitter finish. Overall, this is a nicely balanced, age-worthy wine which is just a little too fruit-forward and too high in alcohol to hail from the Old World. Nevertheless, it is more of a food wine than a cocktail wine, given its power and opulence. It is drinking well now, but has plenty of life left.

May 3, 2016 - OMG. Never been a Syrah fan but this one is amazing! Rich, voluptuous, complex and easy to drink alone or with food.

December 11, 2013 - Strong alcohol on the nose. Hard to pick-up the other aromas. The palate is much more balanced. Less complex than I would have hoped for in an old-world style mid-priced syrah, but it was still very enjoyable. Fruit-forward blackberry, plum and black currant flavors moving to rich dark chocolate and a short bitter finish. Good effort on the texture... not silky, or velvetty, but soft and refined. An amazing feat, considering the alcohol content at 15.8%. Medium tannins and medium-high acidity. The value here was good for a Napa Syrah with some old-world character. This was missing the cool climate complexity I would expect from this style, in higher priced wines.

May 5, 2013 - Beautiful nose, with remarkeable complexity. Unfiltered and unfined. The palate is dry, but with lots of fruit, balanced by medium (+) to pronounced acidity. The alcohol is medium (++) at 15.8%. The tannins are medium plus. Overall, this is a very nicely balanced, age-worthy wine. Undoubtedly new world in style, while retaining some old world elegance and restraint.
