    February 22, 2024 - Tight first taste with minerals and acid opens up to plums and cherries. Nice wine but in a weird place.

    May 3, 2019 - This wine was well built and has a lot of complexity. It unfortunately had Bret and it took away from the drinking experience

    March 12, 2018 - D30;G10; 4*+8.5+4*+8.5+8.5+4*+4*=92+; 15.0% alc;
    Decanted plus time in glass.
    4* - Dark velvet purple and nice clarity (wine is unfiltered);
    8.5 - Aromas of grilled and charred meat fat, leather, coffee, smoke, black olives, ripe blackberry, plum compote, dried black cherry;
    4* - mouthfeel of mellowing tannins, ripe acidity, and alcohol;
    8.5 - flavors of dark red fruit, earth, richness and penetration, but only medium complexity - solid, just not layered like the aromas are;
    8.5 - long, penetrating finish from an integrated hot alcohol with acid back profile;
    4* - balance is toward alcohol and fruit with barely enough acid and tannin to balance;
    4* - likely to last several more years unless the fruit collapses, but there seems to be good structure here to support several more years.

    October 21, 2017 - Friends brought this over on 10/21/17. It had a rich, powerful, expressive bouquet of blueberry, blackberry, plum, smoked meat, licorice, pepper and spice aromas. The palate was rich, dense and dry with flavors that followed the nose.

    August 1, 2017 - Decanted for two hours, seems like a good first move at this stage with the wine. The nose is dominated by French oak, and offers macerated blackberries, black plums, iodine and lightly tanned tobacco leaf as secondary notes. The body is full and the acid is juicy. The tannin structure offers really well formed and grippy tannins that integrate seamlessly and avoid locking up the wine. The texture reminds me of a Cote Rotie in a very good way, it's the highlight of the wine. Concentration is a bit lacking, though that's a vintage liability. This is fruit forward with raspberries, strawberries and cherries, but offers substantial baking spices as well. Beautifully crafted wine from a tough vintage, this is enjoyable stuff. Modest depth and concentration hold it back from greatness.
