January 1, 2019 - The most surprising thing about the '07 Muncagota was the glass full of sediment that came from the bottom of this bottle, even after standing up for two weeks.

On the nose I found a rich, dark fruited mix of black cherries in liquor, with hints of brown sugar, sage, tobacco, balsamic spice, and smoked meats. Velvety textures greeted me on the palate, as dark red fruits washed across the senses, leaving mineral-tinged spice, leather and cedar tones in their wake with a hint of grippy tannin offset by zesty acids. The finish was long, resonating on balsamic spices, saline minerals, zesty (almost unruly) acids and dried black cherry with a bitter twang.

In the end, this is an enjoyable bottle of wine right now, if you're looking for full-throttle Nebbiolo to go with a meal, but it also lacks any sense of terroir, and shows the heat of the vintage more than anything else.

December 31, 2018 - Not sure where all these 88-91 scores are coming from. This was an excellent wine and matched up well against a Howell Mountain cab that was over double its price. Still plenty of structure and acid for longer term aging. I would say it should be entering prime drinking window in 2+ years.

November 18, 2017 - At 10, this hits the sweetspot between youth and maturity. The rather warm vintage is evident from the sweetness of pruney fruit and some heat on the finish, but there is impressive depth and complexity to match. Dried rose petals, cherries, wax, anise and some minty herbs and underbrush. Big and bold palate, with very good length and plenty of structure for the long haul, but I rather like it now...

September 26, 2017 - Enjoyable. Seeming more advanced than its 10 years of age. Deep ruby, bricking and ocre at the rim. Old leather, dried and preserved red fruits, earth, road tar and cinnamon on the nose. Also some dried tobacco leaf. Similar in the mouth. Below medium weight though with bright acidity. Dried red berries, soil, dry brushwood and creosote. A little umami soy. Rich with fully ripe tannins. Finishes dry and relatively long. Quite forward for a Produttori Riserva so therefore a good one to drink relatively young.
