Community Tasting Notes 15

January 22, 2022 - There was a lot of "Napacabs" on the table tonight (see my IG reel). There were a couple of notes that distinguished one from the other. All in all, the gems were wines like this that had a little bit of red interlaced in the black and blue. Two days later, I have very sharp remembrance of this wine. The Hillside select and Eisele? Couldn't really tell the 2 apart. At half the price, this provides twice the character. Black fruits are here but are overlayed on a funky, weedy red and black cherry backbone with dark wildflowers. Hints of eucalyptus and green olive throughout. Dirty black cherry licorice. Sandalwood and a faint hint of clove. Finished with a hefty amount of black pepper. This one had been opened for a few hours before I showed. Some others had noted that this was basic and unilateral, but there is no mention whether or not they decanted, which I would absolutely recommend for this wine. Beautiful 2012 red blend.

December 11, 2021 - Really good with depth and structure. Well balanced and good with and without food.

April 4, 2021 - Classic Napa style. Very oaky but smooth and in a good drinking window.

June 7, 2020 - Tasted over two days. Pleasant, not great. A bit hot up front With nice medium bodied red fruit, but also a bit grren on the back end. Expected more.

April 29, 2020 - Blackberries, cassis, ripe plum and some tobacco and eucalyptus notes on the palate. Great concentration, not overdone. Medium intense and nicely integrated tannins - overall body is medium too. Good depth. Acidity is low to medium but there’s a kind of mineral touch to it which gives it some freshness. Finish is medium long.
