May 22, 2023 - Loads of structure - chalky tannins, and good body and acid. Some fruit remains, though the flavor profile has mostly turned toward stewed fruit and leather. A lovely mature zinfandel.

October 7, 2021 - Decanted 45 minutes before tasting. Deep opaque garnet with a rust-colored rim. Complex port-like oxidative nose. Dried cherries, coffee, unsweetened dark chocolate, black pepper, currants, toasted molasses, and a bit of sweet baking spices. A few aggressive swirls coaxes out green leaf aromas from the wine, but they quickly recede. Medium heavy bodied, medium acidity, and there is a bit of a dusty/gritty texture. Palate is a combination of fresh and dried cherries, blackberries, currants, and just a bit of that huckleberry smokiness. Heavy tannins coat and then melt away bringing in the oak flavors of licorice, unsweetened cocoa, and tobacco. Long lasting mineral, dried fruit, cocoa, and espresso finish with burst of acidity that helps pull it together.

This is still a monster of a zin and has the legs to go longer.

January 23, 2018 - I usually let a wine rest after shipment, but since this just traveled down the highway for about the same distance I would drive to take a bottle to dinner, and it has been treated well, I dove right in. Glad I did. This is mature--not over the hill, but at ten years, Zin doesn't have a lot to gain. This was very tasty. Profile is a bit different from the DCV and Rockpile Zins I mostly drink, with less blackberry and sloe flavors, maybe the age? This had some nice secondary flavors--a little earth, leather, mild tobacco. Still has a little fresh leafiness. I didn't look at the ABV, but I assume it's up there--still, no heat, just bold flavors. A little coffee on the nose along with those fruits mentioned above. Tannins are melting, so can drink with jambalaya, as we did, without worrying about conflict. One more in stock. Great deal on the winery's sale.
