Community Tasting Notes 5

February 21, 2021 - I had trouble scoring this because I wanted to be fair. To explain: By pure accident I discovered a bottle of this in a NYC wine shop that is not high end. The bottle was covered in dust and it was warm in the shop. I have no idea how long it had been in there but the wine was only $20 so I thought I'd take the chance. So I think it's fair to say that the storage conditions were way less than ideal. But....the wine still shows fairly well and interestingly, opened up nicely when drunk on a second night. The bottle I had has a medium/dark brown color, what you'd expect from a 50yr old Sauternes. Nose has very pleasant notes of caramel, apricot and petrol. The palate has a bit of cognitive dissonance going on with marzipan and candied peach followed by a bit of lemon zest. Surprisingly, acidity is still lurking in the background, albeit very slight. Clearly the wine was a bit "stewed" but overall the fact that it held up after so long in a not-ideal storage tells me the quality of the fruit selection was quite good. I imagine an ideally stored bottle would score into the 90s.

February 14, 2021 - Thick, rich, yet balanced. Dark golden colour, almost light brown. Cotton candy, tropical fruit, pineapple, honey, and a buzzing finish. Very nice bottle.

September 19, 2020 - Still fresh. I agree with the apricot and honey description. Very tasty but not particularly complex.

October 5, 2017 - Mike G. does Cleveland (Landerwood Pool & Tennis): This seemed a past prime although it still had something to offer. Deep golden in color. The nose is nice. Someone said it is Schuerebe. I take their word on it. Minerals and honey. On the palate, this is sweet but flabby. Not really cloying, but it lacks much acidity. It is pleasant with sort of a honeyesque quality. Drink up.

May 31, 2016 - Absolute essence of apricot with honey and a touch of orange. Tasty.
