December 28, 2021 - Still drinks well, nice burgundy but nothing extraordinary

October 14, 2021 - Pristine bottle - like a new release. Very good fill. Solid cork damp to about a quarter of its length, came out with a resounding”pop”. I was curious because I know the winery at the time said they could have done better and that they were still learning how to get the most out of this vineyard, which was newly acquired. Decanted just 15 minutes. The most beautiful color. Some gentle browning to the red, now paling at the rim. Quite pale and of only medium hue. Sweetly red fruited nose - initially quite subdued - but with that utterly irresistible Vosne succulence that makes you want to taste the wine. Complex very red fruits on the palate - there is absolutely nothing black here - small berried fruit complicated by hints of spice. Concentration in a good way. Strong on the attack, then the flavors fade a little as you move towards the finish but then the vigor reappears on the back end, where there is just a touch of pleasant dryness. I notice the oak too, which I think is sweetening the fruit and, as I always do, I sense this more by the second glass. And by then the tannins seem a little drier. Holding up really well. Bought on release.

Quality wine and very representative of Vosne, as I understand Les Suchots to be.

As an aside, I think the de L’Arlot label one of the least attractive label of any wine I can recall - and I was told by a reliable source that Jean Pierre de Smet did not perhaps like it a much as his wife, who was responsible for the design 30 years ago. To their credit they have stayed with it !

February 3, 2010 - Drinking very well. Slightly preferred this bottle over the same producer's '93 NSG.
