Community Tasting Notes 12

July 23, 2021 - Berserker Offline (Mathilde Bistro - SF): Nose has tons to offer, with warm black fruit, dried flowers, and a bit of funk. Clean, no brett. Good acid and plum/cherry fruit in the mouth, some savory herbs / ammonia salt bitterness, medium weight and not at all overwrought, but just a bit foursquare and outclassed tonight. 92 for the nose, 90 on the palate.

October 29, 2020 - Perfect cork. Slightly faded color. Complex, savory nose - dried roses, lavender, olives, and a bit of dark funk. Heat too. On the palate, it starts out a bit monolithic but unfurls over 4 hours. Bountiful dark fruit, savory and not sweet, complex garrigue, tapenade, grilled meat, a bit of medicinal herbs that finishes in an not entirely pleasant bitter ammonia salt direction. Fairly full bodied by Texier standards, saturating every corner of the mouth in a very pleasing way. Supposedly almost all Grenache, but the savory, funky notes would suggest otherwise. Even better integrated with a bright seam of red fruit on day 2. Were it not for the bitterness, this would be an outstanding bottle - better than the ‘01 Beaucastel a couple months ago. Fantastic value at the $34 I paid at auction.

November 1, 2013 - Shocked that the last note on this wine is from 2008. Wine has great acidity still and is well balanced with a beautiful CdP nose and a great long finish. Garnet color. Spice on the nose and a little pepper on the finish. My drinking window for this says 2014, but I have 6 bottles that I think I will enjoy over the next 2-3 yrs. Texier continues to impress me and I am glad that I laid his wines down. Def saving for a burg / rhone dinner.

January 11, 2009 - Can see why this might be controversial, significant non-fruit flavors will turn some folks off : leather, seaweed/iodine, spices. A little kirsch and black fruit, not particularly deep or long but OK.

November 7, 2008 - Vegetal, not much fruit. Never opened up.
