Community Tasting Notes 1

March 12, 2012 - Even though the bottle says Bonarda/Merlot, trying to get Cellartracker to express that is beyond my expertise. But, we love Cellartracker, and do the best we can to describe what is in the glass. This is not an exceptional wine, but it does have one unique characteristic. This is the first red wine I have tasted, that has banana on the palate. This is not a bad thing. Who says red wines should only taste like red fruit? If it tastes good, we drink it. Pretty light on the color. The nose has crushed cranberry, a little menthol, and light vanilla. Not a lot happening as it crosses the lips, but some acid and tannin kick up by the back palate. The banana is mixed with fresh cut rhubarb, and some pretty pronounced, but balanced acidity. Little tiny tannins. Not sure what food to match with a banana tasting red wine, but sure am going to finish this glass.
