Community Tasting Notes 4

December 4, 2022 - Lots of interesting aromatics on this one after so many years. Deep black cherry, vanilla, licorice, toasted cumin seeds, a little funky, animal notes.

Good acid-body balance, very little tannin left at this point.

Strangely a little prickly, not sure where that’s coming from…

Overall enjoyable if a little over the hill.

December 4, 2016 - No experience with this wine, and I admit not much with anything from South America really. The bottle is big and heavy, packaged like modern Napa cab. The wine too reminds me of a modern style, with for distinct heat in the aromatic. This is nearly always a detractor for me, as I just don't care for wines made this way any more. The fruit here is riper-toned, black and red with a zingy, juicy cherry finish. There were also some comments about barnyard, which I did get early on. Faded a bit or my senses got duller as the night went on (probably the latter!).

December 4, 2016 - This is an interesting blend of Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon. I have limited experience with malbec so it's difficult for me to discern which attributes are attributed to Malbec vs. Cab. Decanted for 3 hours. The nose had a hint of black Olive which led me to believe that it would have been syrah had I tasted it blind. Slight horse and saddle. Can definitely pick out the cab cassis fruit flavor on the back end. Decent.
