September 28, 2020 - This 75 Cuvaison Cab is an under the radar superstar from legendary winemaker Philip Togni. It was the last Cuvaison made by Togni, representing a special cuvée from grapes grown at the summit of Spring Mountain. Upon opening, the wine showed some considerable brett that thankfully blew off with time in the glass. Amazingly it grew stronger by the hour gaining depth, power and complexity. At 13.6% ABV the wine was considered extremely concentrated then and still is now. This ‘signature’ cuvée is unbelievably rich and dense with chewy tannins and offers up a deep bouquet of sweet cassis, violets and dark soil. The dark berry fruit is framed by killer notes of underbrush and minerality. Togni is responsible for producing perhaps the most iconic Napa Cab in history, the 69 Chappellet. While this doesn’t necessarily reach that height, it may just be the next best wine he ever made.

October 5, 2002 - Remarkably deep colour would put it in the 1990s if blind. VG nose with lots of fruit. Lovely attack. Still fairly forward with plenty of fruit and nice length. Would never guess it was anything like this age. VG indeed. If the 1975 Mondavi Cab was a real treat, this is an exceptional treat.
