Community Tasting Notes 4

April 15, 2014 - Pop and pour right out of the refrigerator. Light straw color. For you leg people, and I'm not at all, small slow movers sliding down the glass.

It's too cold right now, but picking up muted aromas of apple.

Tasting while still a tad too cold for me: light bodied, nice citrus.. tart lemon? somewhat lingering finish.

I'm guessing no new oak, so if you are thinking Rombauer walk away. (I see it was about 10% new)

We let it warm up for 30 minutes or so, a few swirls along the way. The nose is similar but a little more pronounced.

As it warms I'm picking up a little pineapple, mouthfeel is rounder and more pleasant. Finish is still about the same. I like it.

Was a busy weekend and somehow lost my lovely bride's comments but her notes were very similar to mine.

I'm thinking $15 on woot would be a sweet spot, but not put off by the combo pricing.

April 15, 2014 - Color was a clear medium straw.

I felt the nose was peach, vanilla and some oak.

Palate was more apple and citrus than the nose suggested and as it warmed butterscotch with subtle oak.

Not a butterbomb chard with this clean finished offering allowing you to experience the fruit flavors.

August 10, 2012 - Not unlike several Ritchies from my past. Round and appropriate to the winemaking. A 10-second delay before a delicious finish of mid-to-backpalate marshmallow/coconut/marshmallow. Very good wine.

August 5, 2012 - This estate Reserve is from the same vineyard as the 2010 Estate, but vinified differently.

Harvested over 3 weeks, and slowly fermented over 2 weeks at 40 deg F in stainles, then aged 16 months in French barrels, of which only 10% were new. (yay). The reserve is blended from the best barrels using 3 different yeasts, one native.

Oak has its place as a tool in Chardonnay, and indeed most great Burgundy houses, use some % of new oak. A little can go a long way as this wine shows, and can enhance this variety nicely, when used with restraint.

To The Eye: A deep Golden yellow
On The Nose: Toasted coconut, Stone fruit, pineapple, hints of green apple and honeydew melon.
In The Mouth: Melon, butterscotch, pear notes. Nice structure from the oak.
This chardonnay will age well and improve over the next 3-5+ years.

A rich but not over the top chardonnay, that would enhance a meal of roasted chicken, pasta with cream sauce, rich seafood like crab or scallops.
