July 23, 2016 - Saw this one seeping in the wine rack. Cork was intact, but saturated. Nose had fruit at the open, but everything quickly went green pepper.

May 7, 2012 - Very Bordeaux like - medium to full bodied, slight rust hue setting in, slight earthiness and leather accompanies the black berry and black cherry fruits, floral, hint of tobacco and black olive on a moderate tannin finish.

April 1, 2011 - Very Bordeaux like - subdued black berry fruit, floral, leather, tobacco and a hint of spice layer on a moderate soft tannin finish.

August 9, 2010 - Vertical tasking w/A&S H and P&U C. Drank '90, '92, '94, '95 and 2000. The '90 seemed subdued at first but about an hour in displayed nice, mature cab flavors (though a touch herbal). Nose always reticent. The 2000 had an attractive nose and is in a good spot to drink currently. Haven't tasted too many 2000 vintage cabs yet....

Without finishing the first two vintages, we then began on the '92 and '94. In line with our previous experiences, the 1994 is a disappointing bottle of Viader, well past its prime (if it ever had one!) and barely palatable. At the end of the evening it was the only wine not polished off. The '92 was still very vibrant (more tannic than the '90) and similar in taste, and can likely be cellared for a bit longer still.

By the time we took up the 1995, my recollections are less clear! In summary, I would rank them in the following order: 1990, 1992, 1995, 2000 and 1994.

I believe the price of Viader quadrupled from my initial purchases of the 1990. That is difficult to justify...
