August 22, 2020 - Decanted and drank over 2 hours. As per previous note the wine is medium bodied with a nose of earth, cassis, pencil lead. On the palate a velvet entry with decent acidity and dark red fruits mid palate, and a silky spicy finish. Wine seemed to have lost some of its power an hour into the decanter so quite perplexing to see it wane. Maybe it was my palate and the food that went with the wine not being the best match but at close than half the cost I much prefer the Montrose St Julien from the 2011 vintage. Same elegance but more power.

August 2, 2020 - Cherry, sugary, and watery finish. Very muted. The winemaker describes this as a "Burgundian" vintage but seems more of an advertisement of the ridiculous price for a wine that to me didn't seem different from un unclosed Bordeaux regional. Tough vintage of course.

June 3, 2020 - Not sure whether this wine at current prices is the best QPR but wow how nice it is to savor this second wine of Lafite. Certainly emulates the finesse of the Grand Vin. Deep ruby red, slightly blackish at the core, did not decant so only through Coravin. Nose of perfumed and noble cassis, interlaced with dark red berries, pencil lead and a whif of gravel. On the palate medium bodied, quite delicious and soft entry, very precise fruits mid palate, some sweetness to the wine, good acidity and a decent finish. Classy both in taste and unfortunately in price!

November 14, 2019 - HDH annual Bordeaux tasting: Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Chicago, IL): Probably the best of the 2011s that we tasted today (better than the actual grand vin because this is just drinking better right now). To be sure, given the price, expectations here are very high, and I'm not really convinced at the end of the day about the value. In any case, this is a lighter, but fairly expressive edition, showing nice red fruit and some softer tannins. The palate is a little more linear, with the acidity fairly prominent and driving this wine to the finish. It's not a very complex wine, and I have doubts as to whether it ever will be, but it's enjoyable enough.
