April 8, 2017 - Fairly opaque red color. Ripe cherries and apple cider on the nose. Subdued fruit on the palate. Fine building tannins. A bit oxidized. Probably was best about 2 years ago, but still drinking nicely. On the downswing, so don't wait to drink.

January 12, 2015 - Vibrant ruby color. Nose of tart red currants, roses and some smoky, musky elements. Tart acid, dusty tannins, a bit bitter to start but it gets better with air, but not a lot of structure for an 09 1er Cru. Tart and crunchy red fruits, not a lot of ripeness though, and the fruit’s a bit stemmy and green. Some funk and musk too, but some roses and white pepper as well. Gets smooth and fresher with time, starts showing more pickle and dried flower notes. Tannins stay grippy, but loses me a bit with the lack of deep fruit and too much funkiness. Popped randomly from the cellar and glad I didn’t bury this for a long time. OK, but not enticing. Passable is a tough word, but it fits here.

December 17, 2013 - Ok, but in this stage, a bit closed down.

March 29, 2013 - Good Friday Dinner with Hakka Food (Alex's place): A passable wine - well-constructed and pleasing in some ways, but rather rustic and unpolished in others. The nose had a sweet wash of raspberries and cherries and a lifted floral component - somewhat confected but for a twist of green herbs at the sides. Not quite what I am looking for in a Burgundy. The palate was rather better. Decent without being great, it was a bit on the thinnish side for a 2009 1er Cru, but it did have a nice bright freshness and silky tannins that formed a nice frame for easy going flavours of cherry and raspberry. Like the nose though, there was a little bitter, green edge to its firm, slightly harsh finish. That aside, this was pretty passable. An okay wine for sipping over a casual meal, but not one that I would seek out to buy.

December 25, 2012 - Opened on 12/25/2012 and consumed over two days. A complex and pleasant, medium-bodied pinot noir. With all due respect, I did not experience the "foxiness" mentioned in Beaunehead's 4/11/2012 review. This is a quality wine that you should feel comfortable serving to your family and friends. Decanting is recommended. Tres bien, Monsieur Monnot!
