November 15, 2021 - Neil's Langoa Dinner, Hawksmoor. Deep garnet, touch of mahogany. Nose of dark fruit, tobacco, spice, touch of fruit pastille sweetness here. Medium bodied, again soft and resolved with tobacco notes, fresh acidity, good length finish. Some iron and earth emerging, a bit of dryness on the end but still very enjoyable.

November 15, 2021 - Neil’s Langoa Barton @ Hawksmoor (Hawksmoor, Guildhall): Unsurprisingly every so slightly cloudy. A dense mid to light garnet. Quite fresh with a touch of spearmint. Good structure. There’s a faded core of sweet fruit here, infused with tobacco, but it’s in retreat. Showing well for its years. ***1/2

July 20, 2021 - Had two bottles: the first one with a high shoulder fill was dead, the second one with a bottom neck fill but a cork that slipped into the bottle was very good. Clear garnet with no browning in the glass. Not a great Bordeaux in terms of depth or complexity but everything in nice balance, still some notes of dark and red fruit, sous bois and remaining tannins providing structure. Nice fully mature Bordeaux from a solid vintage

July 6, 2021 - Somewhat surprising considering the state of most 66s at the present time, the 66 Langoa (from an upper shoulder bottle) starts off a bit tight. But what unfurls over the next 30 minutes is a classic, muscular St Julien of the era with sandalwood and loam notes accenting the remaining red fruits on the nose and palate; deep if not complex. The grippy tannins have not faded much despite its age! Despite that, these should probably be consumed in the near term before the fruit fades further as this doesn’t show the aging potential of the great Langoa years (eg, 28, 53, 55).

May 9, 2021 - Nose: gorgeous perfume just rolls off the nose with blackberry, tobacco, cedar, mocha and black cherry. Palate: bright and red on entry with currant, sour cherry, herbs and cedar that rides on a strong backbone of acid. Very direct and exhibiting some browning notes now. Finish: Black cherry, mocha and cigar. Acidity keeps the fruit veering red.

An excellent wine. From Magnum, so I expect that this was a very good representation of what this has in reserve now. Drink up and enjoy.
