Community Tasting Notes 11

October 6, 2023 - Another bottle from the 12 halves I have bought. This one much less balanced. Very spirity, nose of boiled sweets and a slightly off target palate. Hope next one better.

November 23, 2022 - Another half of this. Spirity, but in a good way with some real spice on the long, warm finish. This is a great "weekday" port and great value too.

February 22, 2022 - Clear tawny in the glass. Filigree nose of figgy jam and marmalade/orange peel. Smooth, light, uncomplicated palate of dates and roasted almond. Short/medium finish of winter spice. Sure, a weak vintage from a half bottle but this was great value for a 30yo vintage port and made for enjoyable drinking. Below reviews have been very uncharitable here (73 especially is silly, imo), this was fine.

April 22, 2020 - Maybe a little far gone, bit thin though still some complexity. Clearly not going to get any better from here out.

April 19, 2018 - Ramos Pinto Vintage Port Vertical (P81): Dusty, camphor and sewer with mostly alcohol showing. There was a lot of discussions about this being defective or not. But, for me it was clearly off.
