    Somewhat evolved and moderately translucent pomegranate color with a maroon hue and a brick-orange rim. An interesting, somewhat smoky and slightly pungent nose with aromas of smoky speck, black raspberry and tobacco, some pruney tones, light floral notes of dried flowers, a little bit of cooked gooseberries, a sweet hint of cherry marmalade and a touch of gamey meat. The wine is dry, firm and moderately developed on the palate with a medium body and savory flavors of smoke-cured beef and charred game, tobacco, some brambly notes of black raspberry, light ferrous notes of blood, a little bit of ripe red cherry, light gravelly mineral tones and a hint of wild strawberry. The wine has good, balanced structure, thanks to its high acidity and firm medium tannins that slowly pile up on the gums. The finish is dry, crunchy and somewhat grippy with long, savory flavors of meaty umami and charred game, cranberry sauce, some smoky tones, a little bit of tobacco, light brambly notes of black raspberries, a hint of old oak spice and a sweeter touch of pruney dark fruit.

    Despite its somewhat smoky overall feel, the wine feels wonderfully balanced, nuanced and gracefully matured with good sense of structure and depth. Even if the wine is rather high in alcohol, it never once feels too warm or hot and the flavors are much less ripe one would imagine. All in all this is a very nice and thoroughly enjoyable Carneros Pinot with some age. Most likely it won't improve with any further cellaring, but I doubt it will fall apart anytime soon either - drink now or in the near future. Good stuff, if you don't mind smoky and meaty nuances in your Pinot. Priced according to its quality at 32€.

    Moderately translucent ruby red with an evolved brick-red hue and a pale, almost colorless pink rim. Savory, smoky and moderately developed nose with aromas of meat stew and beef jerky, some prune, a little bit of wizened sour cherry, light earthy notes, a hint of old tree bark and a touch of tobacco leaf. The wine is ripe, firm and medium-to-moderately full-bodied with evolved, quite complex and rather intense flavors of tobacco, wizened sour cherries, some tertiary notes of beef jerky and earth, a little bit of brambly black raspberry, light meaty notes of game, a sweeter hint of cranberry sauce and a touch of minerality. The overall feel is enjoyably balanced with the high acidity and gently grippy medium tannins. The finish is dry, juicy and subtly grippy with long and moderately evolved flavors of beef jerky, tobacco, some ripe black raspberry, a little bit of dried figs, light earthy tones, a ferrous hint of blood and a touch of tree bark.

    A sophisticated, balanced and simply very pleasant Carneros Pinot Noir. A very well-made and harmonious effort where the varietal characteristics remain nicely to the fore even though the tertiary notes are starting to take on the leading role. Seeing how mature the wine feels at the moment, I doubt the wine will evolve very little if at all from here - it is peaking as we speak. All in all, a thoroughly enjoyable Californian Pinot Noir that shows great typicity and sense of freshness. I can say the wine has held up really well, seeing how the producer says it "will improve with additional cellaring for 2 to 5 years" and it is already clocking at 11 years of age. Priced according to its quality at 32€.

    August 22, 2018 - Couleur rouge bismarck, densité moyenne.
    Nez ouvert, exprimant toute la typicité du PN, fraise, framboise, sous-bois, noix de grenoble, ca pinote joyeusement !
    En bouche, du fruit rouge, fraises mûres écrasées, champignon de Paris, noix grillée, un peu de chaleur, une touche acidulée contribue à une impression d'ensemble d'un vin complet et équilibré. Persistance moyenne.
    Vraissemblablement à la fin de sa fenêtre optimale de dégustation, car le lendemain, le vin avait perdu beaucoup de son caractère si agréable à l'ouverture.
    Néanmoins un excellent rapport Q-P et un excellent ambassadeur pour faire connaitre du PN. Je me suis rapidement les quelques bouteilles du millésime 2015 toujours disponible en succursale. Doit maintenant les oublier au Cellier pour au moins 3 ans....

    December 29, 2015 - Force est de reconnaître que ce vin n'était pas à maturité lors des premières dégustations. Encore plus présent, le côté fruits confits rehausse ce Pinot Noir et le rend délectable!
