Community Tasting Notes 7

August 4, 2013 - This bottle was tasty and balanced with a bit of bite in the mid palate, which I judge to be a bit distracting. There is a ton of fruit and an edge of sweetness throughout the mouth. It went well with a nice pot roast.
I have had a wide variety of experiences when tasting this label..... from down-right bad to quite lovely. This bottle fell mid-range. I am concerned that different sellers may see dramatically different handling of the wine which impacts the quality of the individual bottles.

May 18, 2013 - Silk is totally the wrong word for this wine. It is richly flavored but unpleasantly hard. Lots of licorice.

March 23, 2013 - Typical Aussie, with sweet blackberry, hints of pepper and vanilla, a bit austere.

February 12, 2013 - Pretty good. Big wine, but balanced. Big black fruits with hints of chocolate, mocha, earth, some herbal notes. Some mouthcoating tannins, and unctuous mouthfeel. Nice long finish.

February 6, 2013 - I have had about 8 bottles of this wine of different vintages and it has been one of the most inconsistent scoring wines I have ever rated. The first taste of this bottle was hot and fiery and not much else; not very good at all. After a few minutes in the glass it became quite fruity and sweet in texture and mouth feel and then showed a pleasant Syrah flavor with a nice light oak and dry finish. I then tasted it with a great Truffle Brie that has gone well with every wine I have tried it with until this time. The wine with the cheese just became bitter and tasteless… so no more cheese! Over the period of about two hours that I took to drink through the bottle (With some help from my wife) the wine went from its fruity nice Syrah to a thin watery not so wonderful wine at the end. Over the duration of tasting I gave it an 85 to a low of 78(excluding that first taste and the tastes with the cheese). Overall I give it an 82.
I keep trying this wine because the first 3 or four bottles I had about 2 years ago (08?) were quite nice but ALL the last few bottles have been fickle and variable from one another.
