August 8, 2016 - The inaugural vintage of this wine, which certainly has some virtues at 6 years old. Starts with an opaque color. Carries its high 15% alcohol very well, with no alcoholic fumes or burn. Excellent smooth texture throughout the mouth. Mildly drying tannin with no harshness. The worst problem is that the wine has background hints of old wine oxidation in both the nose and mouth. The acidity is not bright or refreshing. The tannin has become more polished than grippy And the fruit comes across more as an overripe plum and mulberry than the briary blackberry some reviews find in the just released wine. The oxidative notes strongly suggest that this wine will not be a good long hauler. Still enjoyable, but unlikely to be a wine joining the mantle of empty bottles proudly on display for helping make our lives worth living.
