November 10, 2023 - Prior bottle was 13 months ago and this wine continues to show quite well. Black cherry, earth, leather and spices on the nose. Medium bodied with black cherry and blackberry upfront, adding plum and darker black cherry. Tart black cherry, spices, earth and minerals through the finish with balanced tannins and acidity providing the structure. As I'd hoped, the mid-body has continued to open up and the wine shows improved integration over my prior bottle as well. Mid-body is now showing some real silkiness and elegance, allowing some of the fruit nuances to show through. Quite pleased with how positively this wine has evolved since my first bottle back in 2016. Should continue to drink at this level for at least the next few years.

June 29, 2023 - Subsequent notes on this wine from 4 years ago. Medium reddish garnet in color with some slight amber & clearing at the edges. Full, forward & attractive nose of ripe fruit aromas of red cherries, strawberries & plums with earthy/dusty & floral overtones of crushed violets, tar, leather, minerals, tobacco, dried herbs & some cedar notes in the background. Full bodied with a very good concentration of balanced & smooth textured, ripe fruit flavors of cherries, blueberries & cranberries with herbs, mushrooms, spices & oak/vanilla in the background. Lingering finish. Drinks quite well at present with decanting & extended airing but presently at 16 years of age, it is close to or at its peak of development. I do not anticipate further development from additional aging.

October 7, 2022 - Prior bottle was 15 months ago and this wine showed consistent with my prior notes and still in a very good drinking window. Black cherry, earth, leather and spices on a nose that while very identical in elements to previously, seemed more aromatic and complete. Medium bodied with a virtually identical overall flavor profile to my previous bottles: black cherry upfront with brighter blackberry, good roundness and depth through the middle, adding plum and darker black cherry and just a touch of black/red raspberry. Tart black cherry, balanced tannins and acidity for structure and earth, leather and spices on a finish that had very good length and better density than I was expecting. Overall, as specifically compared to my immediately prior bottle, tonight's bottle was a clear step above in terms of nuance, complexity and overall integration. I didn't change the score however because my July 2021 bottle I think was more a bottle variation issue and tonight's bottle was more the true story of where the wine is and I think the score properly reflects where the wine is today as well as future prospects. I'll save my last bottle for Q2/Q3 2023 and anticipate a bit more openness through the middle and perhaps a touch more integration on the backside.

July 15, 2021 - Prior bottle was 11 months ago and tonight's bottle was a small step down. Black cherry, leather, earth and spice notes on the nose. Medium bodied with rounded black cherry and slightly brighter blackberry upfront. Mid-body retains nice depth and adds a touch of plum and some hints of black raspberry towards the back. Tart black cherry, tannins and acidity provide the backside structure and the wine finishes with spices, tea notes and light earth qualities. While the fruit profile was generally consistent, I felt it had declined slightly in terms of definition and complexity. Still showing quite well, but not with the nuances it previously showed to earn a slightly high score. Additionally, while it drinks quite well, the acidity and tannins were more noticeable in this bottle than my prior two. Could be a bottle variation issue, but coupled with the fruit profile changes, feels like the wine may be falling slightly out of balance with tannins and acidity becoming more prominent, rather than blending into the background of the wine. That said, it's only a small step back, but I'll plan to open another bottle in late Q4 2021 to confirm.

March 6, 2021 - Lovely mature BdM, with sweet cherry, earth, tea, rosehip, leather om the nose and palate. Good acidity and smooth but also rich and very long. Fantastic balance
