February 2, 2017 - I was a bit nervous to open this one, however, it showed pretty well. Probably the most voluptuous Sauv Blanc I have ever had but still all intact. A rounder, vanilla, with some oak SB with solid finishing acidity. There was a little tropical fruit and even a tad of citrus. It went quite well with honey caramelized carrots which I usually pair with Chardonnay... go figure. Overall an interesting SB experience that worked out for a part of our meal.

    Hold up. Holy bottle variation.

I came across a final bottle and was fully expecting to dump it, based on the previous bottle, but this has fared much better. The oak is still pretty pronounced, but in a vanilla, new French, sort of way, rather than the generic hardware store sort of wood of the previous bottle. The fruit has a bit of a tropical edge to it, but finishes with a lot of minerality and a grapefruit pith-like bitterness, which is a bit at odds with the fruitier notes. Full bodied (by Sauv Blanc standards) and there is a bit of heat. The finish is medium plus, but it feels a bit disjointed. This was a pleasant surprise, given my very low expectations, but it doesn't really approach the heights of the best Dragonette Sauvignon Blancs. This makes me very curious about the longevity of their best Voglezangs.

October 2, 2014 - These took a long time to come around, but it is really showing well, albeit in a very boisterous way. Really good balance of big tropical fruit, pronounced sweet oak notes and a good dose of minerality on the finish. The vibrant acid really holds the whole thing together. Not the best Sauv Blanc from Dragonette, but a pleasant surprise.

May 22, 2014 - I forgot that I had a few of these lying around. Having them on release, I was a little disappointed and regarded these as an experiment of using the Vogelzang recipe with fruit from a colder year. The fact that they did the one-off "Long Aged" label made it apparent that they didn't view this as a total success. As it turns out, forgetting about these was probably the best thing I could have done. The original 2x4 juice has emerged as a pretty interesting wine... which sounds totally bizarre talking about a Sauvignon Blanc.

This is obviously a very manipulated wine, so purists shouldn't even bother, but it is also cool to see what can be done in a style that pushed the envelope to the point of tearing. The vanilla oak notes have melded with tropical fruits, strong acidity and some minerality on the finish. It probably reads closer to Viognier than Sauv Blanc, but it is a fun wine and a pleasant surprise as I had sort of written these off. That said, the Vogelzang is much better.

August 30, 2012 - 18 months in neutral oak. Really pretty and interesting on the bouquet with notes of white floral, slate, butterscotch and lemon zest. Complex lime, straw, white pepper and floral on the palate. Crisp, vibrant and deep with nice presence on the palate and a full finish. Really nice.
