July 25, 2021 - Bought a case as a prearrival and opened the last bottle on Friday. Decanted for 2 hours. It had great color, no bricking, wonderful nose and was great in the mouth, especially with a nice bone-in NY steak. Wish I had more!

July 14, 2021 - Bordeaux 2000 - 20 Years On - 48 Reds: All tasted blind, not decanted. Observations: 1) It´s a good vintage but not on par with more recent great vintages like 09/10/15/16. Why? A smaller group of top wines reaching lower highs and in general a tad less depth, purity and finesse. 2) Right bank is ready, the left bank still needs time to integrate and open up. 3) Not much tertiary aromas yet - peak drinking window at least 10 years away for most wines. 4) 2000 is a bit a cooler vintage which is great for the right bank (not too much ripeness). 5) Winners? Pomerol with the highest ratings. Le Pin (97+ pts) leading the pack for me (narrowly beating the consensus winner Pavie (97 pts).

More information, top and worst 10 lists, appellation rankings, out- and underperformer from five participants in the story link. As always, in such tastings (lots of wines, not a lot of time per wine, not decanted) the ranking of wines/appellations might be more informative than the scores.

TN: Probably the biggest surprise of the tasting, this Dubois Grimon was showing beautifully. A small wine from a small vineyard but compared to all other wines, this is currently in its prime drinking window. Expressive nose with relatively precise aromas of ripe red and dark fruit, cola and mint notes. Fresh and inviting. On the palate very fresh and light with a touch creaminess missing but nice aromas of raspberries and strawberry candy, herbs and minty notes. Not very complex but with a fine structural frame and a medium long and sweet finish. 93-94 points.

    Decanting: Didn’t need any decanting.

    Group average: 93.2 pts
Group rank: Shared 18th out of 48

June 21, 2021 - Grand Bordeaux 2000 horizontal tasting; 6/20/2021-6/21/2021: Grand Bordeaux 2000 tasting with ~60 wines from the vintage hosted by a private collector. All wines were poured directly from the bottle with no decant and served in flights of 4. As general observations I would highlight: 1/ Today the 2000 is, without a doubt, a right bank vintage with Pomerol the star, 2/ the vast majority of wines are still going strong with hardly any past their peak 3/ On the left bank, St Estèphe was most ready to drink with a lot of wines in a closed stage right now, 4/ On the left bank, 2nd to 4th growths were generally more open for business than the 1st growths which almost all closed, only hinting at their full potential. 5/ If you must open a left bank bottle, Margaux is the safest place to look. Complete scoring overview and additional commentary included in the tasting story.

    Tasting note:
Intense, ripe fruit profile. Slightly sweet with a bit of wet leather. Not yet well integrated and would likely benefit from a bit more cellaring. Otherwise firmly structured. Best Dubois-Grimon I've had to date, really strong performance.

    December 22, 2014 - PopnPour, tasted over 2 hrs
-opaque glass-staining very dark red, minimal bricking
    -some faint cassis, pleasant
-med- acidity, med weight and concentration, trace cassis fruit and earth, not much tertiary development, still with quite aggressive tannins
-OK now, not a lot of optimism for future improvement as the fruit is fading without much development of mature elements, but needs more time to shed some tannins

February 2, 2013 - Pleasant; certainly with some complexity and body, but not stellar.
The wine looks Purple colored. The legs are Medium. It smells like Tar, Violet, Petrol, Lead Pencil, Phenolic, Petrol, Prune, and Black currant (cassis). It tastes like Black currant (cassis), Prune, Cherry, Forest floor, Petrol, and Violet. The body is Medium. The wine has Leathery texture. The wine finishes Medium. Still half to go a day later; we will see how it stands up.
