July 29, 2023 - Interesting combination of very ripe and very mature...and slightly to a fault on both fronts. As others have commented, a hint of botrytis; and 14yrs definitely a bit too old.

Not entirely unpleasant but not one I'd want again.

    Popped and poured.
Light gold colour, showing a bit of age but no sign of oxidation
N: There is an initial burnt toffee-alcohol whiff, but it does blow away within 10 minutes. Slight botrytis aromas, an interesting nose.

P:off dry wine weight, nice texture, excellent acidity keeps it refreshing. Good length, flavours of verveine, lemon curd, and a hint of bruised apple. Fresh and interesting despite a slight RS of less 5gpl.

Drink or hold, no rush, but pessimistic on upside potential.

May 8, 2014 - I like this a lot, but it is not everybody's image of chardonnay. Full-bodied, complex nose, but some residual sugar as well. Hey, this is the Quintaine terroir, a hotspot for semi-sweet (botrytis!) white Maconnais from Viré-Clessé. Like it or hate it.
