Community Tasting Notes 15

June 16, 2017 - medium purple to pink color; medium plus viscosity; nose of blueberry, raspberry, leather; on the palate there's black raspberry, black olives, white pepper; surprisingly plush mouthfeel; well balanced acid. drinking beautifully right now, probably best to drink up now.

March 14, 2016 - Totally misjudged this wine on release. Drank over two nights and this was better on Day 2. Purple in color, ruby at the rim. The nose has black olives and black raspberries. On day 2 the nose is much deeper with some violets and leather added to the mix. The palate is similar. On Day 2, it just gets bigger and deeper. Drinks very much like a Cote Rotie. I kept checking the label to make sure this was just the basic Syrah. Yup. I have a couple left IIRC, I will be going back soon to see if this is consistent. The only thing I will say is that this seems to be maturing much faster than typical vintages.

January 31, 2016 - I usually drink this bottling within a couple of years of release. This bottle confirms why. Fruit has faded a bit and not much else going on to make it interesting. Finish is abrupt and a bit tart. Was better a couple of years ago.

December 6, 2015 - 2011 isn't my favorite vintage for Central Coast Syrah, but this is very nice. Really drinking great right now.

October 25, 2015 - The Jaffars Santa Barbara Syrah is drinking beautifully. Tannins are soft, the spices are gentle and the blend has a nice balance of cherry and blackberry fruit.
