February 18, 2023 - Opened as cooking wine for lamb stew (crazy). Dark color, Italian terroir nose. Huge mouthful of dark cherries, balsamico and earthy flavors. Finishes with strong tannins and a little rustic but no problem for me. Balanced and complex, showing age very nicely.

June 18, 2022 - Cellaring was key. A joy with subtle tannins.

December 10, 2021 - Deep crimson color with some discoloration on edges. Aromas of dark fruit, black olive, juniper, leather, tobacco. Still plenty of smooth tannins. Big structure. Taste of dark berries, tobacco, dark chocolate. Drink till 2030.

December 7, 2020 - I bought this wine in Assisi, in the wine shop next to the Duomo (while Ellen was at Mass in the Duomo). Plum, cherries, raisins, and violets with lots of chocolate flavors, including a Rutherford Dust/cocoa powder cherry pit sort of taste, and then some dried herbs on the very smoky and peppery finish. Tastes like Sangrantino and like Umbria. Very drying on the palate, but the tannins have integrated nicely and it’s very silky. Good acidity on the finish. Perfectly balanced. A tad simple, but I’m being picky—this is really good, especially for the price. I’d love to have more.

March 18, 2018 - It has a deep inky purple look in the glass. Initially the wine was quite tart with a sour finish. As it opened up the dark fruits became more pronounced and the flavors grew richer as the full-bodied nature of this wine comes out. The finish unfortunately is quite abrupt even after hours of breathing. It's tasty but not as satisfying as one would hope. That said, it had enough character to stand up against a 55 day dry aged ribeye steak.
