January 4, 2023 - Saturated dark red in color. Aggressive aromas of smoky dark red fruits, spice, earth, hint of dark soy and caramel. Rich, round palate shows some roasted dark red small fruits, savory brown sauce, medium acidity, ripe tannins and an earthy/spicy finish. This is drinking well but the fruit does show some of the roasted 2003 character.

May 1, 2022 - Deep and brooding with raspberry more than cherry fruit, almost liqueur like nose with red licorice, black tea, and spice.. It full bodied and rich but holds itself together. It's dense and powerful, structured and broad. It still has reasonable balance, with excellent palate breadth, with very ripe fruit leaning toward raisin, but not going completely over the edge. Firm tannins on the back end. This would be a good ringer in a blind tasting of pure Grenache CdP. That said, this has an admirable level of clarity and purity of the fruit it has. It's not muddled, just very ripe. Certainly atypical, and not my preferred style of wine. It is likely a success for the vintage and would be a home run if you prefer more fruit and power driven new world pinot. For better or worse I have several of these in the cellar and I will see what happens over time. Better with a beef Bourguignon pot pie. 88 for me, much more if you like the style

October 9, 2018 - A dark, rich, brooding wine that reflects the exceptional heat of 2003; ripe dark cherry and sweet plum fruit, with hints of Asian spices and dried herbs; full body, silky, concentrated; there is a good (not great) acid level, silky tannins, and very good length. The wine is exceptionally rich and smooth, but it’s missing complexity and a bigger acid backbone. I am not expert enough to predict its ageing potential in light of its relative softness, but its color did not betray exceptional age.

December 14, 2015 - Well, I marked that I liked it, but it was barely so in the first 30 minutes upon opening. Initially it seemed very old with brown sugar, soy and some cinnamon spice. Not even worth the score of 89. It fortunately firmed up considerably and ended up quite enjoyable and closer to the CT avg of 91. However, it remained a big, brawny type of Burgundy that is not much to my liking. There is barely any energy or life here. You have to want this wine to be good, and that is not exactly what I look for.

October 15, 2014 - Tasting the wines of Château De La Tour with François Labet: Rhubarb, some cola, cinnamon and a little stalky note in behind everything else. Serious tannins here, they work well with the rather ripe feeling fruit. The cinnamon spice note shows up on the palate as well and I like it for now, but I'm not sure what will happen given longer term ageing. A nice wine that is a fairly obvious reflection of the vintage.
