February 4, 2024 - Provenance unknown! Quite tawny in color. Full-bodied with notes of caramel and sea salt. Sultanas and roasted nuts. Neat!

Some smokieness and less toasted toast than usually. At his peak. Fine bubbles and some candied fruits. 94

December 21, 2023 - Holiday Champagne Gala (Wilmette Harbor Club): Walkaround gala tasting. Still holding well, lots of complexity emerges, even as it is losing brightness. Fun and interesting.

October 28, 2023 - I haven't had a bottle of this since '07. My next to last bottle now.

A fantastic nose. Mature yet bright with autolytic, beautiful Maillard notes, honeyed, floral, with terrific freshness. Laser sharp and finely detailed on the palate. A fine fading bead, becoming more vinous texturally, yet losing no freshness. Bright and detailed on the palate, with citrus as much as orchard fruit, hazelnut, and most of all a sense harmony. A complete wine and one of the best Champagnes I have had in years. Fantastic. I do not see this bottle with terrific provenance to be fading soon, but I also doubt it will get much better. It's joy to drink now. Carpe Diem. 97

June 27, 2023 - Another consistent excellent showing for the ‘85 Dom Pérignon. Obviously tertiary yet with good energy and a nice, if brief, spiral of tiny bubbles. Meaty, not heavy. Good acidity and balance. Developing rather than fading.
