Community Tasting Notes 2

August 17, 2019 - Drinks at Home (Casa Esperanza): A tad modern and sweet for my tastes, but this was pretty decent nonetheless. I liked the nose, with its blushes of rose, sweet red cherries. There was a shade of new oak on it, but not quite enough to be a distraction. The palate had the nice sense of freshness and purity of the 2007 vintage, with silky tannins and juicy acidity framing yummy flavours of red cherries trailing away into a slightly spicy finish. There was a rather clumsy sense of extraction and a certain thickness of mouthfeel, but otherwise a nice wine with a good sense of Grand Cru depth and strength. Pretty good.

July 9, 2019 - Hsien Min's Birthday Dinner (Nouri): Not quite my style, but this had a bit of quality to it. It had a sweet nose, with plenty of red cherries at the fore, but also a nice pull of wet stony mineral and a little spice that centred it back to Burgundy. Pretty nice actually. The palate still showed very young, with plenty of bright. almost citrus lemon-like acidity punctuating more sweet notes of red cherries flecked with little suggestions of earth and spice and, at the finish, a linger of nutty new oak notes. In spite of the sweetness and obvious oak, there was actually quite a lovely clarity and balance to the wine, and pretty good depth for a Latricieres as well. I was quite surprised by the quality on this, given some of my less than sanguine experiences with Camus wines in the past. Still a bit too modern in stylings for my liking, but this was otherwise quite a yummy that should continue to improve in the mid-term.
