July 22, 2023 - Oh wow this is good. From prize fighter to Pulitzer prize. This would have been a full on SA slugger when young but now it’s mellowed beautifully, hung up the gloves and is still full bodied but also nuanced and articulate.

Cork disintegrated so popped and poured. Wine in great shape and good from the get go.

Lovely nose of mint chocolate, cherry, Parma violet, cinnamon, meat juices and a touch of leather.

Gossamer entry. The wine just glides in and coats the mouth. Mint chocolate, black cherries, allspice and then tobacco leaf and a touch of chilli heat. The fruit is still there and holds its own agaisnt the still present tannins and not inconsiderable acidity.

Just lovely and still in great nick. The fruit can go on for a few years but I think would start to play second fiddle to the acidity. So i would recommend getting stuck in now.

December 16, 2021 - After a virtual wine tasting of 6 wines by Langtons for the Humpty Dumpty charity, I decided it was time to open this. Under crumbling cork which had done its job. Sumptuous, luscious, plush. I do hope the 2016 we tasted will be as good. And like all good reds, drunk with pizza. Details. Cloudy dark plumb red, little brown tinges showing its age. Little given by the bouquet. Soft fruit giving way to dry pepper tannins. In the zone now.
