October 5, 2019 - Well damn... I loved this wine so much on release that I bought 18 bottles, drank 6, and put the case away for 6... nearly 7 years. And that was too long, I fear. I did not intend on having it sit that long, but that's often the way things go when they're buried at the back of an off site storage. So what's it doing today, anyway? The aromas are quite stewed... which is the major problem here. It smells like old, past its prime plums and figs. The kind that has turned to mush in your fruit bowl, and is covered in fruit flies even when there aren't any in your house. This is the dominant aroma, but beneath it is still some of the nice soil tones that I loved on release, with acid and minerals present as well. But that stewed fruit note is incredibly powerful. Palate enters with just a slight bit of that stewed fruit, and as its held in the mouth it actually improves matters as the acid and tannin begin to kick in, and you have more of the sensation of earth and mineral tones which are quite nice. Move this around like mouth wash and it gets better yet still, covering any trace of those stewed flavors and directing it to all acid and minerals. Interesting. If you're doing that mouth movement action for a minute you also just get the acidic structure on the finish as well. The acid is still incredibly strong with this one, but the tannins have faded a bit on the finish. Nice lingering sensation of acids and minerals, with just the slightest hint of old fruit. Smaller, quick sips show lots of the old, rotting fruit on the palate and finish, which really isn't enjoyable. So... to drink today, make sure you hold this in the mouth for 30 seconds and then its good enough to get over that nose. With just sniffs and quick sips, this is an upper 70s scoring wine. If you take your time with it... 87. I've had two from the solid case put away so far and both showed consistently. I will say this was better on day two, and I suspect that there is likely quite a bit of reduction contributing to those plum aromas... so there may still be some bottle to bottle variation here. I will note as I check in with future bottles.

April 9, 2018 - Nice acid, tannin balance with good after taste and strong nose.

December 21, 2017 - Had this last bottle with steak salad. The salad had some tortellini in it and because of that I couldn't move off the idea of Italian wine with dinner. There is a wild quality to it, some dried red fruit, anise seed and a strong ferrous streak. I think there may be another gear left and sorry that I won't have the chance to find out. But it drinks very well now.

June 8, 2017 - Maturing beautifully, this is quite supple now, with sweet and sour cherries on entry and a bloody, salty finish. A little time in the cellar has paid significant dividends. Thoroughly enjoyable.

May 10, 2015 - The raw materials are there to make this an excellent wine, but as of now it comes across as too rough and tumble. Should have its best days ahead of it still. The 2007 was clearly the better drinking wine tonight.
