December 31, 2022 - Coravin fun - Bordeaux (My place, Kent Street): From Coravin. A little caramel; almost like a maderised quality over black fruits; plums, blackcurrant, brambles, dusty sweet spice, toast, cedar, slight leather. And that slight maderised note is reflected on the palate, plenty of drying tannins and fruit tea flavours backed by sweet spice and caramel complete the picture. Bah.
August 19, 2022 - Steak decisions (My place, Kent Street): From Coravin and left for 30 minutes before tasting. Medium plus intensity aromas of baked black fruits - plums, blackcurrant, plenty of oak spice, cream, slightly dried out quality to the fruit and a bit of meaty, beef stock underpin. Savoury, meaty and a little warm on the palate initially, fruit again shows as slightly baked, tannins more of a burr than anything else. Hmm to meh...
May 23, 2021 - On the one hand I very much appreciated having an aged Bordeaux. It does make a difference and there's certainly an extra elegance that adds to the wine from it. On the other hand, this was a fairly basic wine and struggled to really stand out at all. Totally drinkable, but somehow didn't seem to add to the food or have the food add to it. Right in drinking window if I had to guess. This isn't getting better I don't think.
May 9, 2021 - Bouteille bien conservée. Arômes médocains de fruits noirs, de tabac. Un bel mélange de tabac, de cuir et de sous-bois. Bouche multidimensionnelle, suave et luxuriante. Tanins bien intégrés. Dans une bonne fenêtre, mais peut-être bientôt sur la pente descendante.
August 27, 2020 - Coravin fun - Prieure Lichine (My place, Kent Street): From Coravin. Meaty - Bovril in fact - savoury, plums, sweet spice, a little pepper and salami, very slight blackcurrant with time a little red currant and smoky firework notes. In the mouth it's similar; savoury, meaty with plenty of tannins, a little black fruit begins to peek through with time. I think a good decant will sort this one right out.
February 21, 2020 - Good solid structure, and when compared side-by-side with the 99, more depth and tannins.
February 20, 2020 - 1996 Bordeaux (Piccolino, Liverpool Street Stn, London): A little darker and slightly more dense. Drier on the attack with more grip through the mid palate. A touch of rusticity. Substance though. ***
February 8, 2020 - From Coravin. Hmm. Nose smells old, sweet red fruits, biscuit and toast, yeast extract, muddy field, slightly oxidised walnut notes, baked meats, a little caramel and plum. In the mouth it's initially leather with juicy acidity, savoury, the yeast extract is joined by some red and black berry fruit and plums. Tannins are talc textured and persistent joined by some non intrusive alcoholic warmth on the medium plus length. Hmm. This is possibly slightly out of condition but I suspect a good decant will help, as will a lump of appropriate meat.
January 20, 2020 - 1996 Chateau Prieuré-Lichine, Margaux 4eme Cru. Delightful and complex!

On opening this wine showed an aroma of
Red berries, strawberry, blackberries, mushroom, sweet crusted fruit pie, •
On the palate
Medium body, fresh bright fruits, earth, spices, tobacco, cigar box, medium plus length
No ageing colour.

Two days later after storing in the fridge under replaced cork, it is soooo much more dense, in texture, mouthfeel and flavour.
Much more dark fruited, leather, spice, mineral, creaminess.
