Community Tasting Notes 3

July 29, 2013 - Bottle number two, six months later: Different impression this time. The fruit is really shining through on this one. Notes of blueberry and blackberry preserves with fig, leather, vanilla and fresh cigar with a hint of new tire rubber. I'm not getting nearly as much of the smoke characteristic this time. It's dry on the palate but with a lush and creamy mouth feel. It's more balanced and easier drinking. It's lower acidity and higher tannin, with the tannins have a decent grip across the palate, though not as harsh as I remember. Six months in bottle seems to have changed the wine dramatically. This bottle was served with a light decant and screened, whereas the first was consumed as pop-and-pour. I still think it would become more integrated with time in bottle, but it's ready to go now with a little air time. Nice wine. 90+

April 22, 2013 - Great Wine for the price! Fruit forward, pleasant nose, balanced, finishes very clean. Didnt really need to let it sit around, great when opened.

January 13, 2013 - Dark fruit and scorched earth all the way through. Black cherries, currant, leather, burning cigar and campfire on the nose. More of the same across the palate with an invasion of firm tannins and a long, lingering finish. Decant is a must. Decent by itself but this wine would be a steak lover's dream. Needs a few years in bottle. Screen for sediment.
