November 10, 2023 - PnP. Enjoyed with stacked chicken enchiladas. Finally seems to be coming around. Although the tannins and oak are working toward integration, and are “taming”, the acidity appears to be waning slightly. Blackberry, black cherry and licorice lead, with vanilla, cedar mulch and black rocky dirt in the mix. Strong finish. At fifteen years this has yet to reach its peak. Hard to say where this is headed. Very good, but I think with a few more years in the cellar, this will finally tell whether it’s great or a complete dud.

December 8, 2020 - I am surprised at how much bright fruit there is. This wine is in no way tired out. I have to wonder about storage and how it might be impacting different experiences, though it has been in my far-from-perfect cellar for 7.5 years.

November 13, 2020 - This bottle was quite solid compared to those I drank in 2019. Maybe past a dumb stage which I often encounter with Tempranillo. Dark fruits with coffee grounds on the finish. Full body, solid structure with mid-palate acidity. Good with food.

December 23, 2019 - Dark fruit notes are more restrained. Dense but still has some acidity and structure. Fine with food but not as good a drinker as a few years ago. Noticing from several 2008 Toros that aging past 6-8 years is not helping it as much as anticipated unless they go into dumb stage at various points. 2017 may have been its peak.

September 20, 2019 - This is far from fading...in fact, this is still a very formidable and monstrous wine; still in development, even at eleven years! Decanted and enjoyed from a Riedel Double Magnum glass. Deep ruby and full body. Still tight, and comes across as slightly closed, with noticeable oak aromas, blackberry, black cherry, and charred earth. Drying tannin with a notable acidic backbone. It may take a few more years for the structural grip to loosen. This was a tough and cool vintage and I think the winemaker may have used a deep toast to offset the tannin...time will tell if this comes around, lots of potential.
