March 5, 2024 - From a very large bottle. The attack is super rich sweet intense dark fruits. Flavours of fruitcake, with some tar. Full bodied, mouth coating. Moderate structure. Long and complex, drinking well now. Not convinced it has the structure for really long life but it could be hidden behind the massive fruit extraction.

January 2, 2024 - My last of a three pack, and this shockingly drinks almost identical to my last bottle over four years ago.

Lovely deep red in the glass with bricking around the rim. Fig bar, sweet black cherries and tobacco aromatics. Ripe red and black fruits on the palate...not over ripe, but definitely sweet. Channeling more of a cherry liqueur and concentrated mid-palate as it ages. Close to fully integrated. Quite smooth and still a lot of fruit playing a primary role, but it’s not getting any better. More sexy than intellectual (nothing wrong with either). Not as old-school as the ‘02 Mondavi VHR I opened the next day, but the fruit is charming here.

I’d imagine this will hold in this window for another couple years and then decline, but I didn’t expect it to hold in this same window for almost five years. Drink up.

May 4, 2022 - 6.0L opened for our wine night with friends. Very happy with how this has developed in the cellar over the past 10 years. Black Currant and blackberry with sweet tannins. In its prime but had a lot of legs left. Secondary notes of cedar and leather. Was so happy to be able to share this wine with good friends.

December 28, 2021 - What a gloriously fruit forward jammy wine! Admittedly, I prefer fruity wines. This one is about as fruity as they come. Almost like drinking jam. Maybe not for everyone, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. Less balanced than some wines that exhibit more tannins, but very delicious with blackberries, currents, cassis, and grape! A very quality crafted wine that still tastes young at 20 years old. The fruit mellowed after an hour in the decanter and we enjoyed it over 2-3 hours. I’m so happy I have another bottle of this gem.
