  This Thomas Hine 1988 Grande Champagne is an early-landed Cognac, matured in their cellars in Gloucestershire for the now defunct Howells of Bristol since 1990, before being bottled in 2004.
  
  A spirit of real subtlety here; a delicate balance of floral/herbal notes, creaminess, gentle rancio and the more typical woody characters. The lightness of touch on the palate is truly remarkable, really showcasing the finesse than can be achieved with the early-landed style. Soft, yet enveloping, this is in a class of its own.

  June 4, 2017 - Elegant and graceful - matured in Wickwar, Gloucestershire in a subterranean cellar where natural humidity ingressed into the cask, lowering alcohol degree in a natural process giving a beautiful satin texture to the spirit. The combination of Bernard Hine's skill at selecting the raw spirit and the humid west country cellar has delivered a satin textured Coganc of exceptional finesse - how do you score a Cognac like this? it s not about power but grace - even the hangover is gentle.

  January 29, 2013 - On the commercial scale from *** to VSOP to XO I'd place this slightly above most VSOP brands yet tasted, but behind the XOs I am familiar with (Courvoisier, Landy, Hennessy, Otard, Remy), let alone the Grande Champagne XOs from Hennessy or Remy Martin. Pretty spirity and hot, the only noble element I can identify is a hint of caramel on the mid-palate. Otherwise this is very good, clean French brandy, no more no less, and not remotely worth 60 GBP/75cl. 85P
