  December 25, 2015 - Was a little worried because I have been storing this in a regular (albeit chilly) closet since September. I'm fairly sure it was treated well before that, because I suspect it came from the winery's former owners, but when I pulled the cork (and thank goodness I remembered to use the Ah-so) I was worried. Wine was most of the way up the cork and the bottom third of the long cork was getting crumbly, but it all came out in one piece. First smell a little funk came off, almost like SO2 on a younger wine, but then it was just a little faint. Poured out a small glass, and it tasted fine, if a bit undeveloped. As the evening went on, this got better and better. Amazingly, still classic fruits of Cabernet, but starting to develop those old suitcase and leather smells. Just a touch of herbal flavors, a subdued mint, and some sage. 12.5% alcohol--they don't make them like this anymore.
