Community Tasting Notes 4

January 7, 2014 - Popped and poured. Slightly sour herb and red fruit aroma. Wild and wooly at first, with VA flavors and other weirdness. After an hour it's toned down but still a volatile mix. Coming to the forefront are brilliant sour cherry flavors with chalk and spices. Mild vegetal notes in the finish.

I can tolerate some VA, which is a good thing in this case. There's definitely going to be some bottle variation on this wine, so anyone who can't handle a little freakiness should avoid. This was good and enjoyable, but a little too unruly even for me. We'll see if I have better luck next time.

Day 2: Lesson learned. Open this sucker well ahead of time. The flavors are now perfectly well integrated and smoothed out. A touch of the vinegar tang remains but that has become (for me) a feature rather than a bug. This probably still counts as a relative loser in the bottle variation sweepstakes, but is quite nice.

    December 4, 2013 - Yowsah, what a lovely wine!
A nose of pomegranate, cherries and baked strawberries as well as celery, beans, gunpowder and loam. With a dash of perfume to make it perfect.
Light to medium bodied palate with juicy fruit - pretty ripe for the style - refreshing acidity and nice tannic astringency. Lovely beetroot to pomegranate fruit. Good length.
Finely balanced and oh so joyous!

May 4, 2013 - Excellent example of a light bodied wine that is still profound. It's light but not insipid. And utterly drinkable. This is a wine that maintained its charm throughout the bottle.

Bright translucent red colour. Airy, open and fresh nose. Youthful and compact. The palate is light, aromatic and fresh. A touch of candylike spiciness. Aftertaste is crisp with some cherry tones.
