August 16, 2019 - 12% alcohol. Tasted half blind.
Pale and somewhat youthful lemon yellow color. The nose seems to be alive, shifting constantly with complex, layered aromas of wizened red apples, some floral notes of apple blossom, a little bit of woolly lanolin, light honeyed tones, hints of evolved spicy tones and even a toasty touch of brioche. Lots of everything here, and not just from the array of typical Riesling aromas. The wine is ripe, broad and medium-bodied with somewhat concentrated flavors of peach, some honeyed tones, a little bit of pear jam, light steely mineral tones, a hint of pithy grapefruit bitterness and a touch of sweet golden apples. The high acidity makes the wine feel fresh, precise and balanced. The finish is juicy, rich and quite acid-driven with very long and somewhat concentrated flavors of peach, some apple jam, a little bit of chalky mineral bitterness, a hint of honey and a sweeter touch of exotic fruits.
A ripe, structured and rather opulent Riesling. Tasting half blind, I didn't pick this one as a Rheingau Riesling, since this lacked the incisive steeliness, bracing acidity and the overall lean style of the region, but I guess that's just the 2011 vintage doing its thing. Nevertheless, the wine is in a very good phase right now, and while it will probably develop for some years more and keep for a lot longer, this really doesn't scream for further aging anymore. Very nice and enjoyable an effort. -

December 23, 2018 - 1/1 Another bottle of my absolue favourite of the Montosa vintages. Just great. I had Nonneberg and Schlossberg 2011 some 5 years ago. You could already feel the potential. Closed, massive, in particular the Schlossberg. These two are becoming stars in 5-10+ years. And then, tasting work to be done. Look forward to it ...

April 28, 2018 - From 1/1. Confirmed once more, a truly great success for Breuer in 2011. Love this wine after, having tasted many times. Went actually well with goat cheese this time. Will look out for more of this. Agree, 92 is a high score, but Montosa 2011 deserves it.

September 16, 2017 - This Montosa vintage is one of the values for money in German riesling I know.

September 1, 2017 - golden yellow colour, smells of apricot, a little bit of petrol and slightly of minerality, medium body, a little bit of residual sugar, hardly any acidity left, in the mouth apricot, a little bit of minerality and a little bit of petrol, in the aftertaste apricot, acidity and a little bit of petrol, medium length (10 sec), good Riesling, but one to drink up
