Community Tasting Notes 9

October 11, 2022 - My Feb note said “last bottle”; this one had evaded me, hiding with mostly weird white riojas in my cellar. It is mostly consistent with the Feb bottle, but a little dried out, tiniest hint of oxidized citrus and pineapple. Still, very clean and carefully paired with pecan wood grilled scallops and charred pineapple salsa, there was enough acidity to enjoy the best in this elegantly aged chard. Drink up. Thank you, Fred, for 10 years of great drinking!

February 19, 2022 - After my last note, I was more than a little surprised to find this bottle, my last, in really perfect shape, with more acidity, rich buttery fruit, and not a hint of oxidation. Prominent oak, but still in balance given the viscous texture of its sweet lime and peach skin fruit. Went very well w bay scallops and clams in a light tomato, garlic, saffron , clam juice , and chardonnay broth. Drank well two hours after opening, w little fade.

September 22, 2021 - Definitely on the downside, but drinkable for another year. Flavor profile consistent w note before mine. Don’t let the oxidation put you off this, just serve it with a rich lobster or chilean sea bass with a vanilla scented cream, or a charred veal chop with grilled radicchio or endive, where the slight bitterness will compliment the better aged qualities of the wine.

November 16, 2020 - This shows some age hitting the glass with a honey gold color. Rich and smooth, with hints of vanilla, tropical fruit and a somewhat waxy texture. Medium acidity with just a touch of oak showing through on the backend.

April 21, 2018 - Slo-oxed for 15 minutes. Better than the previous bottle in March, but not quite up to the bottle 17 months ago. The palate yielded a good dose of citrus, some apple, and a light dose of oak (that increased a bit with temperature). The mouthfeel was medium to plus, the acidity was bright, and the finish was solid. Drink up!
